Botox® Cosmetic is widely considered a safe, predictable, and effective “wrinkle-fighter” in the right, qualified, and capable hands – like the Kore MD Health and Wellness team in Atlanta, Georgia. However, there are steps that you can take to support optimal results from Botox® and other botulinum toxin services.
Why do my actions matter if I choose a licensed and experienced provider?
Well, finding the right professional who is experienced with Botox® is essential. Providers like Dr. Nicole Battaglioli and our team ensure that just the right amount of Botox® is injected into just the right parts of the face to get natural results without the risk of serious complications. Yet, every treatment plan developed at our office is a shared responsibility between our professionals and patients. It is also essential to, in turn, follow any instructions that our team has provided you. Depending on your characteristics and needs, you may receive special instructions for preparation before your appointment. The same goes for after-care. It’s important to follow our guidance to reduce your risk of complications that could affect the results and interfere with healing.
What is preparation like?
Preparation is generally minimal. The most common thing that you may be asked to do is refrain from taking any blood thinners that are not medically necessary around a week before your Botox® treatment. These medications include NSAIDs like naproxen and ibuprofen. Failure to stop taking these medications can increase your risk of side effects like bruising.
And what should I do afterward?
While Botox® is largely considered a “no-downtime” procedure, that doesn’t mean you can get back to your regular activities and schedule as if you did not have injections. Notably, resist the temptation to touch your face or the treated areas. If you mess too much with the treatment sites, this behavior can increase the risk of Botox® becoming displaced or “migrating” to other parts of the face and head. Likewise, any behaviors that involve massaging or the potential risk of Botox® not settling should be avoided generally for up to 24 hours post-treatment. Refrain from lying down (for three or four hours), having a facial, and engaging in vigorous exercise or physical activity.

What skincare should I use?
There are generally no limitations on the types of products you can use. However, certain products are essential to protect your skin following treatment and sustaining stunning results from these and other cosmetic services. The best thing you can do is apply and reapply a quality, broad-spectrum sunscreen, and practice sun avoidance measures as necessary. Kore MD Health and Wellness can also make personal recommendations for everything from cleansers to moisturizers and serums. While Botox® can be used to delay the effects of aging or stop existing wrinkles from becoming worse, no service at our office in Atlanta, GA, can stop the clock entirely on how you care for your skin and body matters and can help to maximize the results from these and other treatments.
